Mary McCall August 5 1922

In Celebration of
Mary McCall
August 5, 1922 –
August 2, 2019
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, born Aug 5, 1922, died Aug 2, 2019. Predeceased by dearly loved husband Ian in 1991, parents William and Minnie Roddick, and brother Vernon in 2010. Survived by children Leigh, Catherine, Douglas (Monique), and granddaughter, Iris.
Mary was born in Jubillee, BC, and raised in New Westminster. In her youth she was both academically and athletically accomplished. Mary graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Business Administration in 1944, and joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. She rose to the rank of Sergeant, and was stationed in England during WW2, where she made many lifelong friends.
After the war, Mary joined Dupont of Canada, where she met Ian. They married in Montreal, and raised their children there, in Toronto, and in Kingston, and settled in Islington, ON. Mary graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, with a Bachelor of Education, and became a teacher when living in Islington.
Summers were spent at the cottage in Southampton, ON. After Ian passed, Mary remained in her sunny condo, active in bridge, curling, reading, theater, and travel. She was able to spend time at the cottage up to the age of 95, following the sun from patio to patio.
These past two years, Mary was happy and content in her Annex apartment above Monique and Doug, with cat and bird visitors, crosswords, reading, and knitting.
Mary was strong, independent, sophisticated, loyal, humorous, a stickler for proper grammar, supportive, and stoic.
“If there’s another world, she is in bliss, if there is none, she made the most of this.” (Robert Burns)
