Myette, Mary Margaret “Peggy” –
Tracadie
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we
announce the passing of Mary Margaret “Peggy” Myette of
Tracadie, Antigonish County, in St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital, Antigonish, on August 2, 2019. Peggy died
peacefully surrounded by her family, the people she
loved.
Born in Roman Valley, Guysborough County, she was a daughter
of the late Howard and Annie (Quirk) Hanrahan. She later
moved to North Grant, Antigonish County, then to the town of
Antigonish, and finally to Tracadie.
Peggy worked as a custodian for 22 years with the Strait
Regional Regional School Board, and she took great pride in a job well
done. She had a superior work ethic and enjoyed those years,
making many friends. Peggy was also known for her beautiful
garland and wreaths, providing decorations for many during the
Christmas season.
Throughout her life, Peggy was an avid skier and baseball
player. She enjoyed many adventures on Keppoch ski hill and
was proud to be back catcher #32 for her team – the Tracadie
Jays.
Peggy was known for her kind, gentle, generous, and loving
nature. She had a special love for animals, especially
abandoned and stray cats which she would nurture and love, eventually
keeping them as her own.
Peggy was an avid gardener, producing thriving vegetable
gardens, flower gardens, and orchid.
Peggy was a kind and loving soul. She enjoyed a
rich but simple life. She was often teased for needing side
boards on her plate and left a legacy of her cabbage rolls, carrot
salad, scalloped potatoes, and cinnamon cake.
Peggy’s greatest love in life was spending time
with her family, and the lights of her life were her
grandchildren: Kelsey, Jessa, BJ, and Madison. She
took great pride and joy from each of them and cherished them
dearly.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donnie Myette of
Tracadie; daughter, Diane (Barry) Johnson, West Arm Tracadie; son,
Gary (Danielle Keough), Fall River; grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessa, BJ,
and Madison; sister, Marguerite (Doug) Holmes; niece, Karen (Brian)
Clifton; and many in-laws.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michelle Murphy, Dr. Chris
MacKnight, Dr. Sarah Fraser, the staff at St. Martha’s,
especially the palliative care team.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held
Sunday from 7 to 9pm and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry
Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass
will be held Tuesday at 2:00pm in St. Peter’s Church,
Tracadie, Fr. John Barry presiding.
In Memoriam, donations to the Antigonish Town &
County Palliative Care Society or the Alzheimer Society
appreciated.
