She commenced and completed her secondary school liberal arts education at St. Bride’s Girls Boarding School in Helensburgh, Scotland. After a short stint back in Barbados as a primary school teacher, Margaret joined her parents and siblings in immigrating to Burlington, Ontario in 1954 where she remained a resident for the rest of her life.
Margaret and Abraham Gustov (Gus) Goossen were married at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Burlington on January 13, 1967. Throughout their marriage and until Gus’ death on October 26, 1990 they shared many friends and common interest and in their retirement years travelled the width and breadth of Canada, USA and Mexico.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Andrew Muir and his wife Elaine (nee Manning). She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her surviving siblings and extended family: brothers William (Shirley) and John Muir, sisters Angela Lazier and Elizabeth Chalmers, nieces & nephews Elaine (Jason) Muir-Cooper, William (Meaghan) Muir; Andrew (Laurel), Michael (Jenna) and Elizabeth (Simon) Lazier, Charles (Lara Mikituk), and her 11 grand nephews and nieces.
Margaret was possessed of an abiding affinity for literature, art, Scottish country dancing, music, theater and photography, all of which she nurtured and shared with her diverse circle of friends. The Muir family acknowledges with thanks and deep gratitude all those who supported and stood by Margaret during her declining years including Dr. James Faught, the doctors, nurses and staff of JBMH, Det.Constable Derek Grey of HRPS and, not least of all, her many other close and personal friends. A special thanks to March of Dimes, Edyta, Sara, CeCe and Anna and Mr. Lennard for their help and incredible compassion.
