2019
It is with great love and deepest sadness that the family announces the passing of this beautiful and amazing lady Jeanette Mary Kusovac on August 14, 2019 in St. Albert, at the age of 84.
Jeanette was born in Edmonton and was the younger sibling of two girls of Walter and Blanche Broadhead. She had some struggles as a child but always kept going and conquered whatever obstacle came to her.
When she was a young girl, she lost most of her hearing and had to wear a hearing aid. That wasn’t going to stop her when she wanted to learn piano. She taught herself and learned over a hundred songs by ear. With Jeannette on piano and her sister Rita on violin, the girls enjoyed making music together. When her father Walter, who played the saxophone, came back after serving 4 years in the military (WWII), he joined the girls, and the trio played together all the time.
Jeannette played professionally throughout the years in her dad‘s band and a few other bands around town, also playing ragtime piano every year for Klondike Days.
She always drew a crowd playing piano even at her retirement residences where she lived her last years. Her piano playing was a Facebook hit among our many family and friends.
She married George Kusovac in her early twenties and had 3 children. Len is the oldest, Sue in the middle and Ted is the youngest. She was an amazing mom and would do anything for them. Once her children were older, Jeannette and George parted ways. She then got a job with Sears, and later with the Alberta Government for over 30 years until she retired.
Once retired, she met her companion Phillip Allen, (who was also a musician) and continued to play music around Edmonton. They also loved travelling together until his passing.
Jeanette was very supportive of her children and provided unconditional love and encouragement in all of their life pursuits while providing a stable and safe home in which to thrive.
She was the kindest soul and always worried about everyone before herself. Her family was most important to her and also the friends she held close to her heart. Besides being an amazing Mom, she was equally an amazing Grandma. Whom everyone loved so much, how could one not?
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Sue (Murray) Mason, her son Ted Kusovac (Cheryl Schneider), her son Len Kusovac (Suzanne Savage). She also will be remembered and missed by her grandchildren, Mark (Kristina), Brady (Kaitlyn), Ryan (Katie), Madisen (Connor), Matthew and Michael, and great-grandsons Arlo, Benjamin and Lennon.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, August 19, 2019, at St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JDRF Calgary, 1725-10 Avenue SW, 3rd Floor, Calgary, AB, T3C 0K1.
