Hazel Isobel Murray
1933-2019
We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Hazel Isobel
Murray of Antigonish at the age of 85 in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing
Home as a warm breeze blew into the room with family at her
side.
Born in Linden, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the
late Burley and Annie (McFadden) Works.
Hazel was her husband Vernon’s stenographer with
Antigonish Appraisal Services and managed the family income in a way
for her to be at home when her children returned from school, sports,
or part-time jobs. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, reading, knitting,
curling, and getting together with friends to play cards, and though
she never said she was a seamstress, there are still some of her
creations in closets. She belonged to the St. James United
Church UCW, where she spent countless hours volunteering for church
functions. She and Vernon loved to travel every year with
friends and family, and their cottage was a joy and meeting place for
40 years. She was always there for her children and
grandchildren, whom she adored. She was a cancer survivor
for 40 years and lived with Alzheimer’s for 11
years. It is with tears of joy that we celebrate her
life.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vernon; children,
Michael, Halifax; Terri (Jim) Perro, St. Andrews, and their children,
Jacqueline (Kareem), Karen, Tyler, and Katlyn (Brian); Karen (Gerard)
MacGillivray, Gaspereau Lake, and their children, Jonathon (Erica),
Adam (Olivia), and Kelsey; Gary (Donna), Timberlea, and their
children, Emma and Andrew; great grandchildren, Barrett and Lucas, and
two more on the way; sister, Shirley (late Gerald) Nelson, Truro; and
brother, Frank (Marion), Truro.
Visitation will be held Tuesday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
135 College Street, Antigonish, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
Funeral will be held Wednesday in St. James United Church at 2:00pm,
Reverend Doug Stewart presiding.
In Memoriam, donations to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home
Foundation or the charity of your choice appreciated.
