Born in Toronto, Ontario on November 9, 1944, Dennis was a son of the late Ralph and Muriel (Robinson) Spencer of Great Village, NS. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Winnifred (Higgins); children, Christopher (Cindy), Debert, Tanya (Patrick), Londonderry, Trevor (Arran), Londonderry Station; brothers, Lyle (Pat), Great Village, Darrell (Cathy), Dartmouth, Elmer (Linda), Hammonds Plains, Randy, Great Village; sisters, Ruth (Jim), Hammonds Plains and Lynn (Jim), Great Village; sister-in-law, Joyce, Great Village. Also survived by many well-loved grandchildren, Tessa, Brooke (Mike), Carly, McKayla, Alicia and Wyatt; step-grandchildren, Chellcea and Brandon; great grandchildren, Arlo and Isla and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons in infancy, Gary Dennis, Kirk Martin and brother, Wayne.
In Dennis’ earlier years, he served in the Canadian Navy and then went on to be a licensed mechanic. His passion was trucks and cars. He worked at Goodspeeds in Truro, Kent Homes in Debert and upon his retirement, he still did work as a mechanic to help out family and neighbours. When he wasn’t working in his garage, he loved spending time telling stories to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the VON staff and Palliative Care for their care and kindness which allowed Dennis to remain in his home in his final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro from where the Great Village Legion Branch #72 will conduct a Tribute Service on Saturday, August 17th at 2p.m. followed by Words of Remembrance and Reception.
