Delbert Bannister
Delbert Russell Bannister passed away peacefully at the
Sus Health Centre surrounded by family on August 22, 2019. Born
September 15, 1926 in Elgin, he was the son of Harold and Olive
(Shaffer) Bannister.
Delbert worked in the woods for several people and with his
Uncle Cecil in the sugar woods until he started as a mechanic in
Sus. In the 60’s, he went to Lounsbury’s Body
Shop in Petitcodiac until 1974 when he took a job with the Bridge Crew
– Department of Transportation in Sus, from where he retired in
1989. Delbert was a member of the Petitcodiac Kiwanis and he enjoyed
spending his time gardening, bowling, touring to visit new places and
old, and attending the occasional party. His love for family and
friends was almost as strong as his love for his horses and
Delbert is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife of
68 years, Alice (Teakles) Bannister. His step brother, Glendon Filmore
(Carol) and step sister, Faye Richard (Ron). His children Debbie
Cummings (Hazen), David (Brenda), Terry (Heather), Linda Biggar
(Howard), Lois McMackin (Dale), and Joyce Ashford (Jack), his 16
grandchildren, and his 19 great grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his parents, step mother Helen (Filmore) Bannister, and
his brother, Elwood.
Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106
(372-4800) with visiting on Sunday, August 25th from 2 – 5pm. Funeral
service will be held Monday, August 26th at 1pm at the Salisbury
Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Hague officiating. It will be a
scent free environment at the visiting hours and funeral service due
to allergies.
