Arthur’s Obituary
Arthur John Osmond, age 93 years, passed peacefully on Thursday, August 29th, 2019, holding the hand of his beloved Gladys- his wife of 66 years.
Arthur was the youngest of 10 children, born on July 31st, 1926 at Beaches, NL, to Levi and Fanny (Langford) Osmond. Arthur had two very clear passions in his life. First and foremost was his family and secondly, his community. He and Gladys raised six loving children; Darryl, Ruby, Daphne, Judy, Roger, & Louise, and their grandson, Stephen.
Arthur led a life guided by his determination, his courage and his values. He was not just a “Goal setter”, he was a “goal achiever”. Despite his illiteracy, he was a successful advocate for his family and for the Local Service District. He was instrumental in getting electricity, a road, later paved road, cable TV and fought to hold on to his community at a time when many were being resettled.
He was prepared to be judged. He was prepared to do the hard stuff. He was prepared to stand alone. He was intentional, tough and resilient. He was laser focused and he was determined. He would stop at nothing to protect his family and his community. If he believed, he did it anyways and that was just that! He had the will and together with his Gladys, they always found the way.
Arthur leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife, Gladys, and his six children, Darryl (Shirley); Ruby (Randy); Daphne; Judy (Mark), Roger (Janet) & Louise (Oonagh), 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and the grand fur babies that gave Arthur great joy, especially Max & Sam.
The family will be receiving family and friends at Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel 63 North Main street, Deer Lake, NL, on Monday, September 2nd, 2019, from 7-9 pm, where also the Funeral service will take place from on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 at 2:00 pm, with Rev Ed King officiating with the interment to follow at the Bayside cemetery.
The Osmond family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the home care workers that allowed Arthur to be cared for at home for over a year and to the compassionate and kind care of the palliative care team at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, in Corner Brook, NL, who provided a peaceful “home away from home” for Arthur to spend his last days.
