THOMAS MILTON WEATHERALD was born on August 14, 1937 at the family farm near Wawota. He attended Fernley school and later high school in Wawota. Upon graduation he attended the University of Saskatchewan where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1959 and received the Wall Street Journal award for academic achievement.
In 1964 at the age of 27 he was elected as the member of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly to represent the constituency of Cannington, a position he held until 1975. After completing his time as MLA he returned to farming in partnership with his brother.
He loved playing baseball for the Wawota Pats, competitive curling and coached minor and senior baseball.
He devoted considerable volunteer time to the community of Wawota as Chairman of the Recreation Board and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Deer View Lodge. He also was very active volunteering at the Wawota Curling Club and at the baseball park. He had a love of farming, fishing and the environment. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and spent several terms as a member of the Moose Mountain Water Advisory Board.
In 2005 he was a recipient of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal and in 2007 he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.
Tom passed away at Pasqua General Hospital – Regina on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the age of 81 years.
Tom is predeceased by grandson Ryan, his parents Lyle and Mary, in-laws Robin and Hilda Jopling, sister-in-law Helen Wilde and brothers-in-law Murray Wilde and Dave Engle. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Cheryl, his sons Michael (Sandra) and Patrick (Darcy) and grandchildren Logan, Tyson, Connor, McKenna and Kenzie, his sister Gail Engle, brother Joe Weatherald (Lauraine) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Wawota Town Hall on Tuesday, July 30 at 2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wawota Community Forum, Wawota Curling Club or Wawota Ball Park.
