Lovingly Remembered
Roy (Bud) Watson Milner
August 16, 1927 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
July 19, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
With the family gathered around, Bud peacefully passed away at the South Health Campus at the age of almost 92. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Lois and their five sons: Roy, Bill (Maria), Robert (Diana Stuart), Harold, and Bruce (Anik Champagne); and 4 grandchildren, Phillip, Patrick, Jonathan and Emma. Bud was predeceased by 3 sisters: Mary,… Read More » Marnie and Kay and is survived by his brother Bill and his wife Sheila of Winnipeg. Bud’s last days were spent in his dream home which he had built 44 years ago – sitting in the sunroom enjoying the wonderful view of the mountains or watching the deer or maybe the red fox go by. His 13 year old dog Molly kept him company as he thought of his past friends and experiences and his lucky and wonderful life. He loved to talk about their times together playing football, basketball, hockey, baseball and running track. He loved jazz and played the clarinet. Some of his favorite experiences were from fishing and hunting. He made special memories hunting with his sons Roy and Harold in the remote wilderness of northern B.C. with a “string” of horses. His favorite horses were Trigger and Poncho who he rode on numerous mountain trails with the Ridge Riders Club.
After 2 years at the University of Alberta Bud started in construction in 1949 in Calgary, then in Northern Sask. at Beaverlodge, and then Teslin in the Yukon, building a half mile bridge on the Alaska highway. He returned to Calgary where he started and operated Milner and Thompson Construction, then Prestige Builders. These companies were just a part of his successful career in the construction industry, spanning some 40 plus years. Bud has been an active member of the Red Deer Lake United Church starting when it was the white chapel across the highway. His involvement included serving on the board, singing in the choir and particularly in being an enthusiastic leader in the development of the Midlands Link. He enjoyed every moment in the planning of its unfolding design and expansion.
Bud was a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club for over 50 years enjoying the friendships that go with golfing. As his many friends have passed on, Bud has peacefully gone to join them. We will remember him as a friend for life who loved to tell jokes and laugh.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Red Deer Lake United Church at 1:30 pm followed a reception in the Midlands Link.
