Obituary of Renate Becker
Becker, Renate – April 2, 1933 – June 4, 2019
Renate passed away suddenly at the age of 86 at the North Bay Regional Health Center, Ontario. Renate was born in Bremen, West Germany to Anna and Arthur Meyer. She married her husband Hans Jurgen Becker and in 1954 travelled to Canada to start their new adventure. Renate and Hans had 5 children who were born and raised in Eganville. Upon the premature death of her husband, Renate moved to Ottawa and later settled in North Bay. She volunteered at the North Bay Golden Age Club for many years and was an active member of the North Bay Writers’ Club. Renate enjoyed observing nature, writing, and conversing with the many special friends she made where she lived. Renate adopted and adored her cat Roxy who she loved playing with. Renate was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed services led by her friend, Pastor Jerry. Renate’s greatest joy was her many grandchildren. She cherished the love and attention she both received and gave to them. Renate will be greatly missed by her children Iris (Glen) Weckwerth; North Bay ON, Ron; Kitchener ON, Doris Birrell; Ottawa ON, Melinda Findling; Edmonton AB, and Tammy Wigger; Eganville ON and by her treasured grandchildren Amanda Weckwerth, Jason Weckwerth (Andrea), Mark Weckwerth (Rebecca), Heather Meek, Victoria Martin (Charles Alexander), Jody Martin, Jason Martin (Liz), Kristopher Findling, Nicole Findling, and Erik Wigger. Renate is also survived by her Great-grandchildren Allie Meek, Connor Meek, Emma Weckwerth, Liv Weckwerth, William Martin, Emma & Elena Martin. Renate was predeceased by her husband Hans in 1981 and her cat Roxy in 2019. Visitation will be held on June 10th, 2019, at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, North Bay, Ontario from 12 p.m. -1:00 pm followed by a celebration of Renate’s life at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the North Bay Humane Society, Salvation Army, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
