It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Nora Mowatt, 92, on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Mountain Lake Seniors Community in Nelson.
Edith was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on June 12, 1927 to Doris and John Monty. In 1946 she moved to Nelson where she met and married her beloved, John Texearle ‘Tex’ Mowatt on August 6, 1949. They celebrated nearly 64 years of marriage before Tex passed away on June 19, 2013. They enjoyed a life filled with lots of hard work, fun, friends, dancing, and travel.
Edith worked at the Bank of Commerce and Bennett’s Machine Shop keeping books before retiring to devote herself to raising a family of five children. She was actively involved in the community, volunteering her time to visit and read to the residents of Mount St. Francis and Jubilee Manor, participating in and supporting her own passions in music, theatre, and the arts, and also supporting Tex and their children in all their many endeavours and activities. She had a beautiful singing voice, and excelled in school always achieving top grades. Reading and studying were lifelong loves. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, crosswords, puzzles, walking, and spending the summer months at the camp. Quick-witted, kind, compassionate, and generous she had many friends and kept in touch with family and friends throughout the years, thoughtfully remembering birthdays and special occasions.
Edith will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by daughters Gaye Isenor and Jeanette (Nick) Rilkoff; sons John (Karess) Mowatt and Earl (Gerry) Mowatt; grandchildren Lareena, Vanessa and Kimberley Rilkoff, Evan Isenor, and Samantha Mowatt; sisters Carole (Fred) and Sandra (Rob), many relatives and friends. Edith was predeceased by her mother, father, stepfathers (Milton and Lemuel), husband Tex, eldest son Grant, son-in-law Glen, and brother Ron.
A very special thanks to Dr. Janz and the many nurses, care aides, and staff at Mountain Lake who took such good care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. At Edith’s request the Memorial Service will be private. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
