Mary Sophia Stanley Regan 2019

Stanley, Mary Sophia
September 26, 1920 to July 23, 2019. Predeceased by spouse, Alfred James (Stan) Stanley March 1978. Mother to Brenda (Mike) Featherstone and Jo-Anne (David) Johnson. Grandmother to Kari (Quinn), Rob (Tracy), Jennifer (Keith), Julie (Derek), Angela (John) and Brian. Great Grandmother to Cassandra, Katarina, Shania (Quinn), Meagan, Justin, Alyson, Elizabeth, Ella, Travis, Claire, Lukas, Sean and Sophie. Great-great Grandmother to Rylan.
Sister to Irene Devolder of Chatham. Aunt to several Nieces and Nephews. Predeceased by Parents Thomas and Margaret Regan and Sisters Margaret, Betty and Patty and Brother Tom.
Mom served in World War II, training in Ontario and taking her tour in Europe. She completed her role with the Army and then began her life as a wife. In 1978 when Dad passed away Mom decided to take on a new adventure. She took a transfer with Revenue Canada and moved to Sudbury Ontario, opening the new taxation centre. While there she met several ladies, who would remain friends for a number of years, they had a crochet club and called themselves the “Happy Hookers”. Upon her retirement from Revenue Canada, she returned to Chatham Ontario and proceeded to have itchy feet and travelled a fair amount. Several times to Europe, Western Canada and the Southern United States for family visits. She had always dreamed of a cruise, so in 2001 a Western Caribbean cruise finished the bucket list of travel wishes. Her travels did not end there, her car was a machine on the move constantly. On any given day, she could leave in the morning and end up 200 kilometers away. Alone or with a friend, she was always a lady on the go.
Unfortunately the Lady on the Go, had to take a detour and slow down. The beginning stages of Alzheimer’s began and with an aggressive attitude took from us the Mom we loved and remembered who could do and go anywhere. Her final years have been spent with her second family, whom we have learned to love and respect as well, the staff at Maple Avenue, North Lambton Lodge in Forest Ontario. They treat our Mom like family. Hugs are plentiful, smiles are everywhere and the kindness is genuine. With that being said, we, Brenda and Jo-Anne (along with all of our family) want to say Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.
Cremation has taken place and a family service will be conducted at a date in the future. Mom will be laid to rest in the Military Cemetery in Chatham Ontario with her Father. Mom was a kind, loving and thoughtful person, always smiling and trying to make others laugh. Please do not send flowers or donations. In honour of her, we ask that you do an act of kindness to someone, give someone a hug who needs it or just smile at someone who needs to have their day brightened.
Arrangements entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel 123 King St. E. In Forest 519-786-4964. Please leave a memory or condolence online at www.GilpinFuneralChapel.com
