Obituary of Leona Maye Stewart
STEWART; Leona Maye (nee Shearer) R.N.
Passed away peacefully at Brockville General Hospital on Monday July 1, 2019. Leona Stewart of Brockville in her 97th year. Leona trained at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Peterborough, 1945. Graduate training New York Polyclinic Hospital and Medical Schools. Operating Room Supervisor, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Medical Missionary, Liberia 1955-1965, Afternoon Supervisor, Wiseman Nursing Home, and Afternoon Supervisor, Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, Ontario; on staff, Rosedale Retirement Home, Brockville; retired December 1990. Cherished mother of John Jr. (Mary Ann) of Avon, Connecticut, Judith MacNeil (the late Jim) of Brockville, adopted daughters Sando Kolie of Liberia West Africa and Zinna Sambolah of New York City. Beloved grandmother of Caroline Geiger (Jeff) and Erica Stewart (Brittany), Iain (Blanche Israel), Alexander and Jocelyn MacNeil, great grandmother of Stella. Predeceased by her husband Dr. The Reverend John, brothers John, Gordon and Bob, and by her parents Harry A. and Margaret (nee McCaffrey) Shearer of Buckhorn, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Sandy Lake Cemetery, Lakehurst, Ontario on Saturday August 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Leona will also be remembered on November 3, 2019 at the 10:00 AM service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Brockville, Ontario.
