Akilie, Kristine Ruth (nee Kaiser)
Kris often said that everything happens for a reason. Stay strong, stay positive – things will work themselves out. Forever an optimist, she courageously embodied this motto until the end, when she passed among friends and family on July 13, 2019.
Kris was an endlessly loving and supportive mother to Gordon Akilie (Nicole Stark), and will soon be a grandmother whose legacy will not be lost. Kris was a beloved daughter to Laurie Kaiser (Gordon Kaiser – 2013), a confidant and sister to Stephen Kaiser (Robin) and Kimberly Kaiser, and wife to Nizar (2010).
Kris lived her rich life for other people. Joy for her was seeing others smile, usually by her own doing. She adored horses, world travel and enjoying wine and good food with old friends. Her happy place was the cottage, where each morning she raked the beach to the lapping waves in the pre-dawn shadows.
Our sincerest gratitude goes out to Dr. Levesque and his amazing staff at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, and to Kris’ committed nursing team, specifically Darryl Nutbrown. Kim Demoel, Jane Walker, Ronna Katzman – you are the definition of friendship. Kevin Berswick, Margaret Beaupre, Emily Mete – you were not just work colleagues, but life companions.
Kris was a fundraiser and community organizer to her very core. That will not change. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Mainstream Services (www.mainstreamservices.com), whose clients Kris was continually inspired by and for whom she cared deeply. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
