It is with great sadness that the family of Kendall Douglas Corkum, 52 of First Peninsula, and formerly of Lilydale , announces his passing on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in Lunenburg, Kendall was the son of Janet (Dolimount) Corkum of Lunenburg and the late Merlyn Corkum.
Kendall graduated in his earlier years from the Lunenburg High School, and at a young age started to deliver papers and mow lawns while working with his father in the towing business. He continued his working career at the Lunenburg Save Easy and shortly after that managed the Mahone Bay Save Easy.
He started Corkum’s Recyling Ltd. and worked at his fathers business, Merlyn Corkum’s Autobody & Towing Ltd. and later took over the business which he operated until the time of his passing. In 2010 he purchased his hobby farm, Harbour View Farms in First Peninsula, an interest he was so looking forward to in retirement years.
Kendall enjoyed deer hunting and found great pleasure hunting with his two sons.
He always took a great interest in community affairs and supported many events within the Town of Lunenburg in any way he could. He was a friend to so many and he will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
Besides his mother, Janet, Kendall is survived by his spouse, Shelley Thompson and sons, Josh Corkum (Natashja Summerfield), Lilydale and Justin Corkum (Crystal Tanner), Back Centre; special grand-daughter, Maicey, sister, Karen (Blair) Bustin, Northwest, brother, Kevin (Doreen) Spectacle Lakes and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and special niece, Kayleigh Beach.
He was predeceased by his father, Merlyn and a nephew, Benjamin Bustin.
A service celebrating Kendall’s life will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Marion Mawhinney, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, IWK Grace Health Centre or to a charity of your choice.
