Fr. John William McGettigan

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Fr. John McGettigan at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Tuesday, July 2, at the age of 85 years. Fr. John was ordained at All Hallows Seminary, Dublin, Ireland on June 22, 1958 and served in 27 appointments in the archdiocese and 3 years in Peru. His last appointment was Portugal Cove from where he retired. Pre-deceased by his parents Helen (Nell) Colford and William McGettigan; Brothers: Bill (Lucy), Basil and Fr. Dermot McGettigan; Sisters: Helen (Laffin), Maureen McGettigan and Brenda (Pat Doyle). Leaving to mourn his Sister Dolores Schmidt and Family in Edmonton, Alberta; Sister in-law Lucy & Family in Grand Falls; Special Friends, Margaret O’Brien and family; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Resting at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Wednesday, July 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, on Thursday, July 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Friday, July 5th at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Belvedere Cemetery.
