We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of Donald David Carruthers on July 12th, 2019. Don passed away peacefully at the age of 74, surrounded by his family.
Don was born in Toronto and spent most of his life in Wyebridge, Ontario where he raised his family and proudly tended to the home and land at “The Other Place”. Later, Don moved to Barrie where he enjoyed the early part of his retirement travelling throughout Canada and the United States in the Roadtrek. Finally, Don settled in Big Cedar Estates on Bass Lake and at Riverwoods Park in Estero, Florida where he kept busy volunteering his handy-man skills and attending many of the park’s social events. Don had a passion for gardening, woodworking and baking and was known to be a jack of all trades and master Macgyver.
Don spent over 37 years as a loyal and hardworking employee at Raytheon Elcan Optical Technologies in Midland.
Don will be greatly missed by his children, Carrie (Jon), Kate (Mike), Jeff (Karen) and six grandchildren, Jonathan, Christian, Ethan, Lacey, Deacon and Lauren along with his brother Ray (Jacquie), sister Cheryl (Glenn) and nieces Kelly and Katie.
Don will also be fondly remembered by his companion Brenda Faultless, the Sherry Family, Linda Carruthers and the Leonard family and many friends from Elcan, Big Cedar and Riverwoods. He will be reunited with Suzanne and his parents Clarence and Julia.
