Obituary for Dennis Shipman
Dennis Richard ‘Fish’ Shipman, a member of Walpole Island First Nation, passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health in Sarnia on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the age of 78. Dennis is the son of the late Willard Harris Shipman Sr. and late Geraldine (White) Shipman Peters. Loved step-son of the late Leonard Peters. Special uncle to Timothy George. Devoted brother of Willard Harris Shipman Jr ‘Ming’ (late Theresa), Leonard Robert Scott Peters ‘Bob’, Nancy Jones (late Bill), Carol Peters ‘Alt’, and the late Suzanne Heeley (late John). Dear brother-in-law of Ralph Nahmabin, Joanne Peters ‘Jumbo’ and Frederick Bressette Jr ‘Buck’. Dennis served in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, belonged to the Walpole Island Veteran’s Association, was awarded the Tom Longboat Award for Boxing, and played hockey and baseball. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dennis will lay in state at the Walpole Island Sports Complex on Sunday for visitation beginning at 11 AM. The traditional funeral will begin at the arena at 10 AM on Monday, July 15. Interment to follow at Highbanks Cemetery.
