Memorial Donation
Daniel Dueck, 76 of Winnipeg, MB., formerly of Rosenort, MB., passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.
Dan Dueck was born on July 21, 1942, to Peter H and Elizabeth Dueck at their farm home in the R.M. of Morris, MB.
In Dan’s growing up years, he did a lot of farming in his mom’s garden, with his homemade machinery and his younger sister Mary being his partner. Dan went to school at the Rosenhoff South School until grade eight, then stayed home and helped his dad on the farm. Dan was a hard worker all his life. He started work in construction at age 15 or 16, shovelling gravel into a cement mixer. At age 17 he started driving gravel truck and continued on for seven years. During this time, 1963, he married Sharon Tonn, with whom he had two children, Brenda Lee and Robert. While he was with Sharon, he started driving long distance for Reimer Express for five years. After Reimers, he was working for Canada Messenger on a parcel pick up and delivery service with his own pick up truck. While he was at Canada Messenger, he started farming with brother Jake and Dad. It was at this time he bought into a trucking company, to haul live chickens from the farms and haul them to the killing plant in Winnipeg, and also, the cut-up chickens to the restaurants and stores. When he took over Jake’s part of the farm, he sold his part of the trucking business, but bought his own truck to keep on trucking.
In 1981 to 1982 Dan moved to the farm with Beverley, and in 1988 they took on the job of raising Bev’s daughter, Laura’s children, first Jennifer and a couple years later Justin came along. They raised these two grandchildren as their own. In 1992, Bev’s daughter Wanda had a grandson Taylor. Dan and Beverly stayed at the farm until 1994. Dan’s daughter Brenda Lee had granddaughter Samantha that year. With their growing family they sold the farm in Morris and moved to Sandford, MB. He was working for Dueck Building Movers at this time. In 1997, Dan started to work for Rosenort Transfer for seven years. After this he drove for a couple different companies, until he had to go for a quadruple bypass surgery.
A year later he had a defibrillator put in beside his heart. He drove truck for a while but soon had to quit for health reasons.
Dan loved farming but also had a soft spot for driving truck. Beverly and Dan moved from Sanford to Winnipeg, so the children could finish their schooling and go to work. Dan and Beverly remained living together in Winnipeg until April 2019, when Dan went into hospital to be taken care of as his health declined.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at the Rosenort EMC, Rosenort, MB, with interment at the Rosenort Cemetery. Viewing will be at the church prior to the service.
