William ‘Bill’ Dixon
1928-2019
DIXON, William “Bill” – Age 91,
Hazel Hill, Guysborough Co., passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019,
at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, Nova Scotia
with family by his side. Born in Fox Island, Guysborough Co., he was
the son of the late Frank and Mabel (Rhynold) Dixon. He was also
predeceased by his brothers, Berkley and Frank, sister, Elizabeth
(Liz), half brother, Emmitt and his first wife, Shirley
Carter.
Over the years, Bill worked at numerous jobs including the
Canso Fish Plant and also as a truck driver for Abe Lewis. He worked
on the tugboat “Foundation Vera” out of Halifax and
also the “Fair Morse” from Canso to Mulgrave. He worked as a
cleaner at the Canso Post Office and for 25 years at the Public Water
Utility until his retirement. He loved to drive the boys to ball and
hockey games. He loved watching wrestling and enjoyed antique cars. He
always loved his trips to Newfoundland with Cora.
He is survived by his loving partner of 41 years, Cora
Pollard; daughters, Julie (Harold), Canso; Connie (Duncan), Port
Felix; Jean, Antigonish; brother, Shipley (Sandra), Canso; sister,
Alice, Canso; stepdaughters, Tina (Doug), Hamilton, ON; Tracy (Craig),
Cambridge, N.S.; Tonya (John), Ottawa, ON; grandchildren, Chrissy,
Keith, Coady, Benjamin, Robert, Jodi and Amanda; step grandchildren,
Kailey, Jade, Sierra and Jessie; 14 great-grandchildren and 14 nieces
and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in St.
Paul’s United Church, Canso and from where funeral will be
held at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating.
Burial will follow at Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso. Memorial donations
may be made to St. Paul’s United Church. Arrangements are
under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Words of
