Nous avons regret d’annoncer le décès de Thérèse Guimond, paisiblement, le 4 mai 2019 à l’Hôpital Sensenbrenner, Kapuskasing, à l’âge de 90 ans.
Thérèse (Terry) laisse pour pleurer sa perte ses cinq enfants : André Joly et Richard Joly de la Colombie-Britannique; Nicole Vergara (feu Chito Vergara) de Squamish, Colombie-Britannique; Monique Brewer (épouse de Cliff Brewer), Sudbury; et Jules Joly (compagnon de Carole Ratté), Kapuskasing. Lui survivent également une soeur Cécile Berry (Rolly) de Belleville; dix petits-enfants : Kristine, Nicole, Sheena, Richard Jr, Miguel, Renée, Pascal, Stéphanie, Heaven-Lee et Marc Jr de même que plusieurs arrière-petits-enfants et deux arrière-arrière-petits-enfants. Thérèse fut prédécédée par son fils Marc Joly; une soeur, Hélène Bonhomme; et trois frères : Roger, Conrad et Armand Guimond; ainsi que son ami de longue date Gil Pitt. À l’âge de 45 ans, elle a réalisé le rêve de sa vie en devenant infirmière. Elle a œuvré à l’Hôpital St-Joseph, puis à l’Hôpital Laurentien lors de son ouverture. Pendant sa vie, Thérèse a été très active de plusieurs façons différentes. Elle était membre à vie des Dames auxiliaires de la Légion royale canadienne à Chelmsford, de même que son engagement au programme Grandes Soeurs; sa participation au théâtre à Sudbury; membre d’un comité consultatif au Collège Cambrian; bénévole auprès des Olympiques Spéciaux du Canada; bénévole lors de la Campagne d’éradication de la rougeole 1996; hôte de deux enfants dans le cadre du programme Enfants de Tchernobyl; ainsi que membre et bénévole du Centre pour adultes. Thérèse aimait pratiquer la danse, le ski de fond, la danse du ventre, la lecture et, bien sûr, regarder le hockey, le patinage artistique et se tenir au courant des actualités.
Les visites au corps auront lieu le mardi 7 mai de 19h00 à 21h00 à la Coopérative funéraire, boulevard Lasalle, Sudbury, ON. Le service funéraire aura lieu à l’église Ste-Anne-des Pins mercredi à 14h00. L’inhumation suivra au cimetière Lasalle. Comme témoignage de sympathie, on sera reconnaissant des dons au Northern Corridor Children’s Fund (par chèques seulement, expédiés au Salon funéraire Guenette, 108 avenue Byng, Kapuskasing, ON, P5N 1X2) ou à l’Hôpital Sensenbrenner pour l’achat d’un tomodensitomètre.
Thérèse Guimond passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 at the Sensenbrenner Hospital, Kapuskasing at the age of 90 years.
Thérèse (Terry) is survived by her five children: André Joly and Richard Joly of British Columbia, Nicole Vergara (late Chito Vergara) of Squamish, British Columbia, Monique Brewer (wife of Cliff Brewer) of Sudbury and Jules Joly (companion of Carole Ratté) of Kapuskasing. She is survived by one sister Cécile Berry (Rolly) of Belleville; ten grandchildren: Kristine, Nicole, Sheena, Richard Jr., Miguel, Renée, Pascal, Stéphanie, Heaven-Lee and Marc Jr. as well as many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son: Marc Joly, four siblings: Hélène Bonhomme, Roger, Conrad and Armand Guimond and her long-time friend Gil Pitt. At the age of 45 she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and then at Laurentian Hospital when it opened. During her time on earth, Thérèse was active in many different ways. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary in Chelmsford, as well as being involved with Big Sisters; participating in theatre in Sudbury; member of a consulting committee at Cambrian College; volunteer with the Canadian Special Olympics; volunteer during the 1996 Measles Elimination Campaign; host to two children with the Children of Chernobyl program; as well as a member and volunteer with the Adult Centre. She enjoyed dancing, cross-country skiing, belly dancing, reading and, of course, watching hockey, figure skating and keeping up to date with current events.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Cooperative Funeral Home, Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, ON. The funeral service will be held at Ste-Anne-des Pins church on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at the Lasalle Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Northern Corridor Children’s Fund (cheques only, mailed to Guenette Funeral Home, 108 Byng Avenue, Kapuskasing, ON, P5N 1X2) or the Sensenbrenner Hospital for the purchase of a CAT scanner would be greatly appreciated.
