With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Roberta was born in the West End of Winnipeg to parents George and Caroline (Carrie) Faulkner. She grew up in Winnipeg and attended Greenway and General Wolfe schools and graduated from Daniel Maclntyre Collegiate. She worked at Great-West Life from 1944 – 1953 and again from 1980 – 1989. She also worked for Normark Ltd from 1974 – 1980. She enjoyed those times very much.
Roberta loved music and song and sang in her school choir and then in the St Matthews Anglican Church choir for 21 years, followed by 15 more years at St. Chad’s. She was active in various Anglican Church Women and other church groups including St Philips in Norwood. She loved knitting, baking and visiting grandchildren, family and friends. Roberta was predeceased by her beloved husband Charlie in 2012, her parents and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She leaves behind, with wonderful memories, her sister Vi Davis of Vancouver, son Gregg (Brenda) of Richmond, BC, daughter Carolyn (Martyn Daly) of Winnipeg and five wonderful grandchildren who were the light of her life; Kellen (Shirin) and Devan (Genevieve) of Winnipeg and Jameson, Madison and Alexandra of Richmond. She was also able spend time with two very special great-grandsons, Harrison and Kian of Winnipeg. Many nieces and nephews will also miss her.
Roberta and Charlie bought a cottage at Brereton Lake in 1962 where lifelong memories were made with special friends the Stewarts and the Lees, enjoying BBQs, special occasions, boating and swimming. Roberta was never happier than when she was at the lake with her special friends and her family.
There will be a private family service of interment of ashes followed by a service of remembrance on Saturday, June 1st at 2:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. A reception will follow.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the wonderful staff at the Victoria and St Boniface Hospitals. Also, a very special thank you to Dr Brian Sharkey for his kindness, compassion, care and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, the St Boniface Hospital Foundation, the Winnipeg Library or a charity of your choice.
“Until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.”
