Richard Stanley Huband, age 74, of Stratford passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at London’s Victoria Hospital.
Beloved husband and best friend for 52 years of Carole (Dupuis). Loving father of Kris Huband (Don Bender) and Mike Huband. Devoted grandfather of Connor, Mackenzie and Hailey. Affectionately remembered by nieces and nephews Joanne, Jeffrey, Jamie, Janet, Steve, Dave and their families. Predeceased by a brother Maurice (Lou) and by a sister Marylin Young (Bev).
Rick was born in Ottawa, son of the late Charles Stanley Huband and the former Mary Marguerite Pell. He attended the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University and worked at CFRA radio station in Ottawa as an announcer and reporter. He later returned to Carleton University where he graduated with a degree in Public Administration. He worked as the Executive Assistant to the first Regional Chairman of Ottawa Carleton. He later joined the Federal Public Service as a Director of Public Works in Toronto. In 2007 he moved to Stratford where his passion for history, genealogy, heritage preservation and theatre came together. He spent several years as a Friend of the Festival and loved meeting theatre goers from around the world. He was President of ACO Stratford-Perth County in 2015, and co-chair of the Ontario Heritage Conference in 2016. Rick was one of the founders of the ACO Plaque Program and for eight years immersed himself in research to celebrate the citizens in Stratford’s past. He and his wife Carole recently won the James Anderson Award for Cultural Heritage, presented by Heritage Stratford.
Friends are invited to greet the family at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, June 4, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the service.
