It is with sadness that we say goodbye to our Dad and Grandfather Peter Laverne Cantelon who passed away peacefully with family at his side on May 29, 2019 at the age of 85 years. Peter has now gone home to be with his Lord.
He is survived by his sister Marion; his daughter Lori Anne (Tony); his two sons Kevin Del (Judi) and Ian Peter (Crystal), and four grandchildren Connor, Morgan, Sophie (Kevin) and Taylor (Ian). He leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter was predeceased by his father Dwight Lyman and mother Alpha Tobia, as well as his three brothers Lionel (Sheila), Ronnie (Leah) and Leon (Judy).
Peter was born October 10, 1933 in a 3 room shack near Meeting Creek, Alberta, the now location of the Cantelon family farm. He left home to join the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1954 and obtained his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta then retiring from the RCAF in 1961. He worked for a construction company for a few years before deciding to return to the University of Alberta to obtain a degree in Education. Peter owned a construction company for a few years, but the highlight of his career was teaching Engineering Design and Drafting Technology at NAIT for 25 years. He was an active member in the Baptist Church.
In Peter’s retirement years, he took great interest in his grandkid’s lives supporting them and encouraging them with their passions.
Dad was a kind and gentle man truly caring for those he loved. He touched many lives and is missed.
We would also like to thank the Palliative Care Team from the Norwood Capital Care for their wonderful care, attention and love they gave dad. Funeral will be held at Evangelical Free Church, Meeting Creek, Alberta 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society in his name.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Peter Laverne Cantelon May 29 2019..
