Obituary for
Marion Marie Knight (Taylor)
Knight, Marion:
I am Marion Knight. I was born in Epsom, Ontario to Gordon and Elva Taylor on July 9, 1934. My younger brother was Donald Taylor and my baby sister is Shirley Armstrong. As a young woman, I moved from our tiny rural village to Toronto. I loved the hustle and bustle of the big city, worked hard, enjoyed many meals at Fran’s and made many good friends.
I married the love of my life, David Knight, on July 1, 1955. Together we enjoyed music, dancing and spending time with friends. We spent many evenings at the Horseshoe Tavern watching Stompin’ Tom and having some cold beverages. David became a teacher and we lived in a number of communities in Ontario over the years, including Prescott, Sudbury, Newmarket, Aurora, a farm near Mariposa, Lindsay and eventually, Kitchener.
Our first born, Robert, came along in 1957 and our daughter Jennifer was born in 1960. Rob was a “spirited” child and gave us much joy (and perhaps a little grief). Jennifer had a rough start having been born a little too early but she was the sweetest little girl. Our youngest daughter, Susan, came along in 1971 and she kept us up to date with all the “important” music of the 1980’s.
I consider myself to be a business woman, owning my own knitting and yarn store for many years. I also sold real estate and tried my hand at a variety of other careers. I was very involved in activities including singing with Sweet Adelines, participating in local business associations and was active in my church. David and I loved the square dancing community and we received the Trillium Merit Award for our efforts. In addition to knitting, I was an avid quilter, musician and cook. I spent many years watching baseball spring training in Florida and loved to keep up with the scores and trades of my favourite teams. I loved to play golf and I still remember the day I shot a hole-in-one.
One of the best parts of living in Kitchener was having wonderful access to the library. I knew all the staff by name and couldn’t bear the thought of not having multiple books to read at any one time. Keeping on top of everything political is important to me and I enjoy being involved in my party’s local activities (in order to avoid controversy, I won’t detail which party – but my favourite colour is red).
After 84+ years, my journey ended on May 25, 2019, surrounded by my children. I leave behind my sister Shirley, my children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and my beloved companion, Cinnamon. Please come and say goodbye and CELEBRATE my wonderful life at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 & from 12-12:45 p.m.on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Private interment at Uxbridge Cemetery, Uxbridge. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the K-W Humane Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
