Joan Peddle 2019 avis de deces

Joan Alsbury (NEE Peddle)
Sydney Mines
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother & great-grandmother Joan Peddle, on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.
Born in the Cranberry area of Sydney Mines on September 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James and Jessie (Walker) Peddle.
Mom left Cranberry at the tender age of 15 to seek her fortunes in the world, moving to Halifax where she eventually met her first husband, a British merchant sailor named Douglas Woods at the age of 17. After a short courtship, they married and moved to England for several years.
Subsequent to that they moved back to Canada, settling in Montreal, where her two children were born.
Mom’s & Dad’s lives led them in different directions, and they divorced after a lengthy marriage. Afterwards, she met another British man named Kenneth Alsbury whom she was married to until his death in 2003.
She lived in Montreal until the age of 85. While in Montreal, she worked in the aerospace industry; Rolls Royce, Canadair and finally CAE, a manufacturer of Flight Simulators, retiring at the age of 60.
A few months later, realizing that she wanted to make a difference in the lives of seniors Mom volunteered at a senior residence 3 to 4 days a week, serving meals & going on outings with the residents.
Mom had many wonderful friends and enjoyed being with them and family.
Also, being a devout Jehovah’s Witness, she spent a lot of her time studying the bible and attended meetings and conventions, all the while making more close friends.
She also loved to bake and make cookies, cakes, pies and goodies for all her buddies.
At the age of 85, Mom moved back to Nova Scotia (Baddeck) into a retirement residence. There she made many wonderful new friends and joined the local congregation.
She is survived by her son Stephen (Ester) Woods of Bras d’Or NS and Karen Woods (Anthony Torok) of Riverport, NS; also 2 grandsons, 2 great grandchildren,6 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Harry James (Sonny) Peddle, and her sister Jeanette Burgoyne.
Mom was an intelligent thinker, enjoyed a good laugh, was always able to look on the sensible side of things, and people loved her sense of humour, which took many by surprise. She was a kind soul, loved animals and always had time for friends in need. People loved being in her company.
In lieu of flowers or donations, do something nice for someone, a random act of kindness, smile at a senior, tell someone a cheeky joke.
Think of her once in a while.. and smile.
Our sincere thanks for all who helped our Mom in her journey; Dr. Tribo, palliative Dr. Ritter and his wonderful palliative nurse Cathy. Last but certainly not least, the incredible staff at Alderwood Extended Care Facility in Baddeck, who are all heaven-sent. We are indeed deeply grateful.
Cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, May 30, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Highway 105, Baddeck, with Robert Lambie officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
We are very thankful that we were blessed with the opportunity to have Mom in our lives.
“Mom, until we meet again”.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joan Peddle 2019..
