Hearts have been broken in Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton and Kingston with the loss of a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Jackie Davis passed away in the early morning hours of May 23, 2019. You can’t write about Jackie without talking about family because that’s all she talked about. She loved her clan and, in return, they adored her. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them – the big ones and the little ones. When the family gathers to say goodbye to her, there will be stories aplenty from her children. Tammy (Ken), Paula (Tom), Joanne, and Adam (Erin) will go on for hours about how their mother adored her grandchildren (Max, Chelsea, Traci (Mel), Rebecca, Jenna, Jake) and her great grandchildren (James, Simi, Marshall, Vivian). And then there is Jackie’s devoted sister, Rose (Gord), who loved and cared for Jackie right to the end. None of them will ever forget her laugh nor what she did for them. Their lives have been enriched by a woman who unselfishly gave of herself for decades. Born in England in 1938, Jackie came to Ottawa in 1957 with her parents (Anne and Sol) and her sister. She made the transition to Canadian life easily and made a home for herself in the Ottawa community. She married Mel Baker in 1960, and the rest is now history. Family and friends will say good-bye to Jackie at a Graveside Service on Sunday, May 26 at 1p.m. at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street. Shiva will be private. In Memoriam donations to The Aphasia Centre of Ottawa appreciated. aphasiaottawa.org/
