George Frederick Brickman, age 92, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Hillside Manor. Born in Stratford on January 1, 1927 to the late William and Helga (nee Harloff) Brickman. He is survived by his true love and best friend Margaret (nee Seebach) Brickman of 68 years. He was the proud father of James (Marg), Judy (George) Fairles, Michael (Wendy), Timothy (Esther) and Nancy (Rand) McKone. Loving grandfather of Jennifer Brickman (Phil Kitchen), Joshua Brickman (Monique), Matthew Brickman, Adam Fairles (Naudja), Sabrina Brickman (Lionel Gullmann), Amanda Brennan (Mike), Sara MacIntosh (RJ), Katherine Brickman-Young (Adam Young), Justin Strawbridge, Stacey Strawbridge (Adam Robinson) and Amanda McKone. He was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren as well. George will be remembered by his brother Earl, sisters-in-law Eileen Graham (Ron) and Sharon Malec (Paul). He is predeceased by brother Harold, sister Jean (late George) Davidson, sister-in-law Georgina Brickman, brother Art Brickman (late Jane), sisters-in-law Rosann Seebach and Brenda Jackson, brother-in-law Kenneth (late June) Seebach and great grandson Nathanael Cervetti. George was a dedicated former Charter Member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and current member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was a great man of faith and a former Bible Class teacher and elder, member of Lutheran Laymen’s League, Walther League and Lively Lutherans. He was a community minded volunteer as he delivered Meals on Wheels. George was employed at Commercial Printers and spent over 25 years with the Beacon-Herald Fine Printing Division before retiring in 1989. George and Marg enjoyed spending winter months of their retirement in Florida at Woodlands Lutheran Camp. A special thank-you to the staff at Hillside Manor for helping George over the past year, their loving care was appreciated by George, Marg and family. The wish of George and Marg is that the service is to be a celebration of the love and blessings God has bestowed on us, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is also a celebration of the new life we will have with God our Father in Heaven, we come together in a time of thankfulness and love. Visitation at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, May 22 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, May 23, from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 115 Cambria Street, Stratford where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor William Ney officiating. Following the reception at the church, a private family interment will take place at Avondale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s memory to charities that were dear to him, including LAMP (Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots), Sleeping Children Around the World or Project Precious Haiti (cheques payable to St. Joseph’s Church).
