Darrell Craig Young
May 21, 1972 – May 16, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Darrell Craig Young at the young age of 46 on Thursday May 16th, 2019.
Darrell is pre-deceased by his grandparents Clarence and Marguerite Vatcher, Harold and Frances Young, father in law John Everard, special cousin Tammy Cunningham and numerous Vatcher and Young family members and dear friends.
Leaving to mourn his sudden passing are; his wife Kimberly (Everard), his precious daughter Claire, parents Gerald and June Young, brother Trevor, sisters in law Karen (Ed Madden), Nancy (Corey Ford), Tracey (Craig Jewer), brother in law Chad, niece Katie, nephews Adam, Brandon, Tyler, and Tim, also left to mourn his profound loss his close friend Rudy Mercer (Jennifer and family), along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Special thanks to Darrell’s’ Co-workers at Memorial University, Campus Enforcement, Eastern Health Paramedics, and Emergency Room staff at the Health Sciences Center for their exceptional professionalism, compassion, and support during this difficult time.
Darrell grew up in Gander, and was very proud of his home town, ensuring everyone he met knew where he came from. After college Darrell moved to Alberta, but his love for his home province brought him back to Newfoundland in 2000. He returned to St. John’s where he met the love of his life, Kim and they were married in 2003. Darrell worked at Memorial University, Facilities Management, while also creating a business from his passion for motorcycles with his company Avalon Motorsports Inc. In his words he was “Helping You Keep the Rubber Side Down and Shiny Side Up for 15 Years”. Training new motorcycle riders was a joy for Darrell. He eagerly awaited spring, and that first perfect day to get out his bike, and ride whenever he could for as long as he could. He has passed that passion down to his daughter Claire and she shares his joy and enthusiasm for riding. Darrell leaves numerous fellow instructors and students grieving his untimely passing. He was well respected in the motorcycle community and was proud to promote safe riding in Newfoundland. The only thing he was more passionate about was his family and most especially his pride and joy, Claire. He worked hard to give her all she needed to be happy and successful. The best thing he gave her was his time, teaching her everything he knew and making her laugh along the way. She shares his same passion for motorcycles, photography, and corny jokes. He could make her eyes roll and her heart burst with pride all at the same time. She is the apple of his eye and he was her hero!
