ANDREW (André) GEORGE CLARYSSE (1947-2019)
After a long and courageous battle with leukemia and pneumonia, Andrew (André) George Clarysse passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019 at London’s University Hospital ICU, with his wife Wanda by his side. Born in Tillsonburg, André spent most of his life in the fields and countryside of Norfolk County. Predeceased by his father, Fred Clarysse, step-father Joe Nagy, and in-laws Wilford and Laura Mansfield, André is survived by, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially Wanda, his soul-mate and wife of 32 years, his mother Agnes Nagy, sisters Irene Clarysse, and Dorothy Van Hoorne, brothers/sisters in-laws Doug and Cheryl Lester, Daryl and Lynn Mansfield, nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins, as well other family members and cherished friends. In addition to tobacco farming for over 12 years, André worked in factories, forestry, barbering, and trucking. André had a variety of other interests and talents. As a young man he loved fishing and hunting. For relaxation André loved a good card game, watching hockey, car racing, nature shows, gardening and simply sitting out on their deck enjoying a cup of tea and listening to the birds. He had a quiet appreciation for music. He loved and became very skilled in woodworking — from cutting and tending to trees, stacking wood for the stove, making beautiful pieces of hand-crafted furniture, to building beautifully detailed vehicle-related works of art. Most of all, André loved Wanda and together they enjoyed many wonderful road trips through Canada and the US. Visitation will be at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service conducted by Pastor Steve Amorin on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10:00 am. A private family interment will take place at Eden Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, LHSC Foundation, Canadian Cancer Research Foundation, Woodstock General Hospital, by contacting Ostrander’s at 519-842-5221.
