1938-2019
The death of Sylvia Jean (Brewer) Guidry occurred at the Pine
Grove Nursing Home on Friday, April 12, 2019, with her son by her
side. Born in 1938, she was the daughter of the late Eldon D. and
Clara (McLean) Brewer.
She graduated from Keswick Valley Memorial High School with
honours, achieving an average score of 96.4/100. She received the Lord
Beaverbrook Scholarship at UNB. While attending University, Sylvia
also worked afterhours at the library on campus. Eventually she worked
full time at the Harriett Irving Library at UNB, and continued to work
there before her retirement. Sylvia was a very hard worker and a great
teacher. She made a lot of people feel comfortable enough to ask for
her help. Great pride was taken in the work she had done at the
Library. Along with her academic life, Sylvia was also a very fast
runner and won a few races. She was kind and generous with her family
and friends.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Leon E. Guidry; sister,
Patricia Munn (Arthur); brother, Malcolm Brewer; special friend, whom
she shared many hours with, Patricia O’Leary Coughlin, as
well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her
husband, Joseph Edward “Ted” Guidry and brother Meredith
Brewer.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial mass will
be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Wednesday,
April 17, 2019 at 12:05 pm. Interment will take place in the Hermitage
Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Sylvia’s memory may
be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
