It is with heavy hearts the family of Raymond Joseph Tobias, loving husband of Doris G. (Toole) Tobias announces his passing which occurred on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. Born on April 10, 1929 in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late Raymond Michael and Amelia (Stephen) Tobias. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Roy Tobias; sisters Genevieve O’Brien, Theresa Quinn and several other siblings.
Raymond was educated in Saint John and graduated from Business College. He worked in sales and was self-employed, working for Calps and MRA. He bought and developed the first strip mall in Canada known as Ricky’s. He was a very successful small business owner. He was a past president of Canadian Lebanese Association and a long-time member of the Riverside Golf and Country Club.
In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, Doris, he is survived by his sons Rick Tobias (Charis Brown-Tobias), Paul Tobias (Denise Jamael-Tobias), Randy Tobias (Lori Martin) and Stephen Tobias (Sandra Donnelly); cherished grandchildren Jeremy (Jana), James (Alicia), Paul (Tiffany), Alicia Jamael-Tobias, Matthew, Adam, William and Alexander; great grandchildren Arya, Raine, Sophia, Zion Paul Jamael-Tobias; brothers Harold Tobias (Donna) and Michael Tobias (Tina); sister Amelia “Toby” Legere; canine companion Shama; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Raymond’s wishes there will be no visitation. Following cremation a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay, on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 3 pm., followed by reception. A private family interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances in memory of Raymond may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home (646-2424).
