With heavy hearts the family of Don Terris announces his passing on April 20, 2019, at the age of 89 years. He passed away at home surrounded by his family.
Don was born on January 18, 1930 at Graminia, Alberta to Fergus Purdy and Helen “Louise” Terris.
Don leaves behind to treasure his memory; wife, Shirley, of 61 years; children, Lorey (Wayne) Ingram, Crystal (Gary) Miller, Alan (Lanie) Terris and Karen (Trevor) Postill; grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Bowen, Karla Ingram (Randy Armella), Amelia and Alister Terris; and great-grandson, Darian Armella.
Don is also survived by step-grandchildren Alec, Sarah, Kirsten; Chad (Kelley), step-great grandchildren, Madison, Caleb, Aidan, Meghan, Xander and Laura.
Don is survived by his sisters, Edith Olesiuk, Evelyn (George) Finner, sister-in-law Marjorie (Ed) Mattioda and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don is predeceased by parents, Fergus and Louise Terris; parents- in-laws, Pete and Helen Heinrichs; brother-in-law, Art Olesiuk, as well as his grandparents Chapen and Edna Terris; Donald and Elizabeth Brownlee.
Don grew up on the homestead north of Wildwood, Alberta that his parents had purchased in 1932. In the following years, a business was formed in which they logged and sawed the timber from the property. In 1952, Don and his parents moved their business to the Jasper-east gate area. The sawmill and planer were last located west of Hinton (known as Camp 2 or Terris’ Sawmill).
Don retired at age 50. To fill his days, he managed the home acreage, provided firewood for businesses in Jasper Park and enjoyed time with family and friends. One of his many hobbies was to fill his museum with antiques creating a legacy for the family. Don and Shirley travelled with their fifth-wheel trailer throughout Canada and the United States always returning to their acreage in Hinton.
A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, 1 p.m. at Hinton Centre, 1280 Switzer Drive, Hinton, AB.
