Barrett, Bernard “Bernie” Leslie – 86 of Debert, our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, passed away April 6, 2019 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Beaverbank, NS on December 3, 1932 to the late Eleanor (Barrett) Shunamon. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Irene (Smith), son Kevin Barrett (Sonia), daughter, Valerie Barrett (Aidan Walsh); step children, Paul Currie (Janet), Judith Hibbs (Joe) and Catherine Kilgore (Darren); 12 grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, Christopher, Jeffrey, Michelle, Anthony, Angela, Tabitha, Samantha, Cassandra, Kristopher and Kyle and 12 great grandchildren. Aside from his mother, Bernie was predeceased by his step father, John Shunamon. Bernie served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years. He was posted at Gagetown with the Blackwatch and Combat Arms; Newfoundland winter training, Norway, Germany and spent two terms in the Congo. Bernie was posted here in Debert in 1975 and retired in 1985. He was Signal Corps, Master Corpral B.L. Barrett C.D. There will be a private family funeral service held at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
