Di Filippo, Anthony (Tony)
The Family of Anthony Di Filippo (Tony) is sad to announce his passing on Friday, April 26th 2019 after a brief illness just 4 days past his 92nd birthday. He is reunited with his beloved wife Mary (Miano) who predeceased him this past August. He leaves behind his three sons John (Ticha), Michael (Louise) and James (Joanne) to carry on his traditions and work ethic. He is mourned by the great joys of his life, his grandchildren Carrera (Ryan), Elizabeth (Matt) and Laura (Rob). As well as great-grandchildren Abby and Cora Danks. He is also survived by his brother Vincenzo (Jimmy) as well as several relatives in the United States and Italy. Tony was born in Hamilton, Ontario on April 22nd 1927.
In 1929 he, along with his family, emmigrated to Italy, returning to Canada in 1949. He met Mary and were married in North Tonawanda, N.Y. in 1953. Traveling back and forth to the U.S. made for very interesting interviews at the border crossings as Tony held a Canadian Passport but spoke little if any English. We will all miss his magnificent homemade sausages and the Prosciuttos his closest friend Armindo Yachetti and he made together. Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton Street East on Wednesday, May 1st from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 830 Barton St. East, Hamilton on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 10 a.m.
Entombment to follow at Bayview Mausoleum.
