Life Legacy
NOHARA, Paul George (September 20, 1937 – April 2, 2019) – From the arms of his loving wife, Genevieve and surrounded by his four beloved children, on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019, Paul, let go of her hand and took hold of the hand of his loving Redeemer and our Blessed Mother Mary, trusting that they would lead him home. At the age of 81, after an exhausting illness and persevering fight for sacred life, he submitted humbly to Our Lord’s will as he did with every other blessing and challenge in his life. Forever grateful are we for not only having cherished memories to remind us of him, but his entire life was an imitation and legacy of his strong Maronite Catholic faith, his love for his family, friends and others, and his love of God, even to the end where he suffered with humility and joy. Paul was the most loving and devoted husband of 57 years (and love of her life) to Genevieve and most devoted father to Theresa and Wilson Aycho, Tim and Janet (ten Den) Nohara, Annette and Rob Mastracci and Darryl and Jennifer (van der Zalm) Nohara, and most loved and cherished Jiddou (grandfather) to his 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren: Dalida and James Carnegie (Layla and Mairi), Kalil Aycho, Marla and Patrick Pietruzsko (John, Aaron and Lilly), Janan, Miriam, Mireille and Julia Aycho, Adelaine Nohara, Paul (Jr.) and Julia (Maddalena) Nohara (Mia), and Evan Nohara and fiancé Bridget McCartney, Ricco and Kajsa (Cirocco) Mastracci, Milan, Jasmine and Luca Mastracci, and Kristina and Elisha Nohara. He will be greatly missed by his loving sisters Lila (and the late Joe Habib) and Maron Kheir (Faris Georges) and brother Antonios (the late Lila) Kheir, brother-in-laws Joseph (Danita Kapsiak) Harb, and Dr. Raymond (Nawal Nahoul) Harb (we are eternally grateful for Raymond’s loving and devoted care to Paul throughout his illness), sister-in-law Julie Harb, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, all holding a special place in his heart. He will also be missed by Olivia Wall, Imogen Ames and Christilynn Guerin, Jiddou’s grandsons’ girlfriends that he dearly loved. He is predeceased by his parents Georges Nohra Kheir and Hanny Roukas of Lebanon, Joseph (Adele) Khair, Peter (Janet Harb) Khair, Jamili Kheir (Joseph Khoury Mbaarek), sister-in-law Yvette Harb (Hanna Dergham), brother-in-law Elie Harb, and grandson John David Martin Nohara. He will also be missed by many neighbours and friends, and those from his church community including Catholic Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter and the Legion of Mary, and those from former careers at General Motors and Royal Lepage. Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to all of the health care professionals from the Princess Margaret Hospital and the Niagara Health System – Walker Family Cancer Centre that showed extraordinary kindness and professionalism, especially Oncologist Dr. Mary Salib. Special thanks to the many hands and agencies (such as the LHIN, the Niagara South Palliative Care Outreach Team, and Paramed) who came together to provide care including Care Coordinator Kelly Karner, Dr. Debbie Dooler, NP Sue Battersby-Campbell, nurses Colleen O’Gorman, Trina Lemay, Jocelyn Molnar, and PSW’s Michelle, Rob Sajanna. You were blessings in the most difficult of times that allowed us precious family time with Paul/Dad/Jiddou before he passed away. Visitation will take place at PATTERSON FUENRAL HOME, 6062 Main Street, Niagara Falls, ON, on Wednesday, April 3rd from 7-9pm, and on Thursday, April 4th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary being held at 3:00pm on Thursday. Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church (21 Queen Street South, Thorold), on Friday, April the 5th, at 12pm, following, the Rite of Committal at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Niagara Street, in Welland. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (Mass cards) would be most appreciated and in lieu of flowers, donations to The Niagara Health Foundation (Walker Family Cancer Centre) or St. Aloysius Parish in Thorold South would be greatly appreciated.
