LONG, Samuel ‘Sam’ – Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Tuesday March 12, 2019 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of 64 years to Frances (Hayton) Long. Dearly loved father of Peter Long (Jacquie Allen), Susan Long (Todd Smith), Jeff Long (Jordan Juliani) and Jim (Maria) Long. Cherished grandfather of Sean (Sarah), Selina, Elise (Mark), Emma, Mitchell, Kyle, Claire, Seth, Jarod, Hannah, Jordan, Derek and Meghan and great-grandfather of Ben and Sophie. Dear brother of Angelo (Margaret) Long, Rosemarie (Bill) Yule and brother-in-law of Joyce Long and Rev. Mervin Tubb. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his many friends especially Gail and Ken Cournoyea. Predeceased by his brothers Nick Long and his wife Rose, Peter Long and his wife Anne and Frank Long, his sisters Mary Fiore and her husband Domenic and Anna Long and his in-laws Barbara Tubb and Ed (Mary) Hayton. Sam was a longtime employee of Cyanamid Canada, retiring after 35 years of service. He was also an active volunteer with Niagara Falls Minor Hockey for over 60 years, serving as the first President of the organization. For his accomplishments, Sam was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame in 2001. Family and friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Thursday 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 am at St. Ann’s Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In memory of Mr. Long, donations to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Charity (to help finance children who wish to play sports) would be appreciated by his family.
