Atwood, Mark Douglas – 58, The Hawk, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home on March 11, 2019. Born at The Hawk on October 8, 1960, he was a son of the late Alton and Evernelle “Deede” (Nickerson) Atwood. He was a fisherman all of his working life and was happiest out on the ocean or at home with his family. Mark often could be found in his yard or barn working on fishing gear, wood or spinning tales with anyone who stopped by. His love of people and life was evident to all he met, a memorable character full of fun and tall tales. Mark leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Kim (Swim) Atwood; daughter, Mallory (special son-in-law, TJ Nickerson), granddaughter, Maci and special grandson, Cole; sons, Shamus (daughter-in-law to be, Kayla Bradley) and Andre (Sienna Devine); siblings, Audrey, “Chuckie” Arthur (Norma), Margo (Brian), Roxanne (Tom), Deanna (Hughie) and Julie (Pat); brother-in-law’s, Peter (Barbie) and Matt (Debbie); 13 nieces and 17 great-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, mark was predeceased by infant sister, Andrea, niece, Jena, brother-in-law, Leslie and mother and father-in-law, Cyril and Joanie Swim. The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers these past few months, the EHS teams, nurses of 4 East at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Von, Pastor Vince, his sisters, Julie and Deanna. There will be a visitation Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2 p.m. at the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Vince Robertson officiating. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund, Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, and Research in Esophageal Cancer (Canadian Cancer Society).
