La célébration de
Hugh Ranson Dorman
21 mai 1927 –
1 mars 2019
passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2019. He will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by his children, Marlene (Paul), Tom (Patricia) and David (Marianne). He was a beloved grandfather to Scott, Katie (Tim), Stephanie (Brad), Sarah, Elisa and Daniel (Fiona) and a great grandfather to Avery. Also remembered by his brother, Alan Dorman. Predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Dorothy Dorman, and Anna Dorman for 21 years, as well as his dear friend Peggy Edwards and brother Eric Dorman.
Hugh was born on May 21, 1927 in Faversham, Kent, England, and moved to London at the age of 16 to study engineering while working at General Electric as a student assistant in the Cathode Ray Tube (TV) Research Laboratory. During the war, he served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant with the Royal Engineers Parachute Regiment stationed in Palestine.
After the war, Hugh moved to Toronto with his older brother Eric in 1948 where he met and married Dorothy Brickenden. Following a successful 25-year career with Firestone Textiles in Woodstock, Ontario he retired as General Manager/Vice President of the three factories in town. He moved to Toronto in 1975 and started his second career as a Real Estate Broker and Licensed Appraiser in Etobicoke until he closed his office to retire at age 70.
His retirement years were filled with some of his favourite pastimes – long walks, travel and volunteering with meals on wheels. However, his top priority was always helping and caring for his family and friends in every way possible. Hugh was a considerate, compassionate, hard working, fun loving and principled gentleman who was so much appreciated and will be greatly missed by his family and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful and caring staff at The Port Credit Residences. If desired, donations may be made to Covenant House Toronto and Good Shepherd Ministries Toronto.
I shall pass through this world but once
Any good thing therefore that I can do
Or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now
Let me not defer or neglect it
For I shall not pass this way again
