Obituary of Gerritje “Gerri” Vermey
VERMEY: Gerritje ‘Gerri’ –
A resident of Chatham-Kent, Gerri Vermey passed away peacefully at the Blenheim Community Village LTC, Blenheim on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the age of 95. Born in the Netherlands, daughter of the late Jan Willem and Antje (Stam) Winkel. Beloved wife of the late Cornelis Vermey (2010). Dear mother of Ann and Randy Roth of Mississauga, Pete and Brenda Vermey of Chatham, John and Alice Vermey of Blenheim, Corey Vermey of Toronto, and Martin and Marcia Vermey of Blenheim. Oma of 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by 1 brother in the Netherlands and predeceased by 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Gerri was a gifted seamstress and was actively involved at the First Reformed Church in Chatham.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at First Reformed Church, 632 Lacroix Street, Chatham at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 30, 2019 with Rev. Barry Wynveen officiating. Private family interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Blenheim Community Village LTC and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance PCU for their compassionate care in treating mom after her heart attack.
Donations made in memory of Gerri to the First Reformed Church Building Fund or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
