Freda Elaine Nauss
April 20, 1938 – March 11, 2019
NAUSS, Freda (Wood) 80, of Coldbrook passed away after a long struggle with dementia at Grand Manor, March 11, 2019. Born and raised in the Annapolis Valley, she was the daughter of Caswell Wood and Elsie Wood (Brewster). She lived her young life in Baxter’s Harbour, and later in New Minas. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband John (Bud). She graduated from Mack’s Business College, and was an administrative assistant for the Department of Highways, and various staff of the Agricultural Research Center in Kentville. She was a member of the Coldbrook Women’s Institute, wrote community news for the local paper, (formerly “The Advertiser”) and learned to paint under the teachings of Ron Goodwin. Having painted people’s windows for Christmas in the early 1970s, she endeavoured to build on her inner talent, and eventually her paintings could be found not only in local galleries in the valley, but in many places across Canada. Her preferred mediums were acrylic and watercolor. She was a two -time winner of the juried exhibit at the Apple Blossom Festival in 1986 and 1993. She was a member of the Alliance of Kings Artists, Visual Arts Nova Scotia, Paints and Pots, and regularly contributed paintings to Ducks Unlimited Canada. Her painting, time at the lake, and her granddaughter were her greatest joys. She is survived by her son Gregory, daughter – in – law Marion, granddaughter Celia, all of Dartmouth, siblings Phyllis (Bill), Glen (Judy), Gerald (Elsie) in addition to many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, and Grand View Manor, Berwick for the care and compassion they showed to Mom during her final years. No visitation or flowers by request. Burial service will be Friday, March 22 where she will be laid to rest with her husband, whose loving arms now hold her, in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Victoria Road, Dartmouth, at 12:00 p.m. (noon). Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. She will remain forever in the hearts of all the lives she has touched. “Wave after wave will flow with the tide and bury the world as it does. Tide after tide will flow and recede leaving life to go on as it does.” Online condolences by visiting www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca
