It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aldo Ritacco on March 23, 2019 at the age of 69 years.
Aldo was born in Cosenza, Italy, the youngest son of Antonio Ritacco and Innocenza Fontana. He graduated from the University of Perugia with his Dottore in Scienze Biologiche, which gave him the opportunity to work for the University of Alberta and Biomira.
Aldo will be sadly missed by his loving and dedicated wife, Emily; daughters, Enza (Fraser) and Kayla (Houston); and granddaughter, Arya. He will be fondly remembered by his brother, Dr. Gaspere Ritacco of Italy; his brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family and friends. Aldo is predeceased by his son, Anthony Ritacco; parents; mother and father-in-law; and many aunts and uncles.
Aldo’s biggest passion was playing soccer. He played with the University of Perugia, and upon his arrival to Canada, Aldo joined Premier Soccer League. Aldo gave a lot of his time to coaching soccer for not only his daughters, but also various soccer community leagues throughout Edmonton.
Though not born in Canada, Aldo shortly became a fan of the Canadian National Sport, Hockey. Like a true Oilers fan, he bled orange and blue.
Aldo will be forever remembered for his beautiful smile, caring heart and unconditional love for everyone he met.
Funeral Mass Saturday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church, 9110 – 110 Avenue NW, Edmonton with entombment in Holy Cross Mausoleum.
