Obituary (Pete Marcott)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of “Pete” Willis Bernard Marcott, age 76, of Port Hood on December 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the VG Site, QE11. He was the son of the late Nora (Keddy) and Henry Marcott of Stellarton.
He was born in Stellarton and moved to Canso where he met the love of his life, Mamie. He did on the job training to pursue his career as a fisheries officer in Canso. In 1973, he moved his family to Port Hood, where he continued his career with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, retiring 35 years later.
Following retirement from fisheries, he spent another 15 years fishing with Melvin on the New Moon.
He played hockey, coached and followed his children and grandchildren on their athletic endeavours. He loved camping, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his family and friends. Would always be the first to lend a helping hand, for anyone in need. He was never short of words and enjoyed telling a good story. Always on the go, whether it was a trip to the rink, drive down to the pond to check the boats, a visit at the ceilidh or a backroad tour.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his “Daisy” Mamie Avery for 54 wonderful years. He was an incredible father to his sons Pete (Lucille), Port Hood; Paul, Port Hood, and daughter Sonya, Halifax. He is survived by his younger sister, Maureen Lamey “Cookie”, Springville. He was a caring and supportive grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Kristen (Robyne), Kiley (Paige), Keegan, Katie, Baillie, Cole, Jackson and Matthew and four great-grandchildren Kaleb, Everly, Rory, his newest addition Cohen Pete Marcott and his many cousins, nieces and nephew. A special thank you to his brother-in-law Victor and his wife, Senie for all their comfort and support. He will be missed by dear friend Joe Anthony and also be greatly missed by his dog Happy, of 12 years.
Special thanks to Dr. Lok for his many years of medical care he provided to Pete, along with Dr. La France, the nursing team at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and the ICU medical staff at the VG Site for all their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Saturday December 29th in Port Hood & Area Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood with Fr. Vincent vanZutphen officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
