TINGLEY – Valerie A., 82, of Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital (Bridgewater) on Friday, February 1, 2019 surrounded by her children.
Born in Halifax, Valerie graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School, married, and raised five children. She enjoyed volunteering, and for many years canvassed door to door for the Canadian Cancer Society. Over the years Valerie worked in a number of organizations including Sears, Fairview Villa, Rockingham Bakery, Walmart, and Costco, retiring in 2001. Valerie spent time living in Toronto and Vancouver, but returned to her home province of Nova Scotia. She attended Bridgewater Baptist Church and enjoyed being part of the Encouragers Group. She loved music and dancing, and played the piano and sang. She also enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Valerie had a lifelong love of animals, and cared for many pets over the years. She had a special love for her two dogs Shadow and Sandy. Most of all, Valerie loved her family, and enjoyed time spent together around a meal.
Valerie is survived by her first husband Ralph (Julie), her children, Deborah Gue (Randy) Vancouver, Geoffrey (Sarah) Crousetown, Stephen, Halifax, Robert (Cynthia) Aurora, Diane Hopper (Steven) Centreville and grandchildren Lauren, Scott, Anna Louise, Amanda (Scott), Jason, Danielle, Carlie (Shawn), Sara, Jennifer (Eric), Joseph, Victoria, Rachel, and great-grandson Alexander. She is also survived by her sister Jaqueline (Lohnes).
She was predeceased by her mother Marjorie (MacPherson) Lunn and her sister Patricia (Wettlaufer).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private family graveside interment to be held in Springhill at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society, Elder Dog Canada (elderdog.ca), or an animal welfare organization of your choice.
The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and support of our mum’s neighbors, and the amazing care provided by the health care staff at South Shore Regional Hospital with special thanks to Adriane and Laura. The care and compassion of Dr. Diane Edmonds, and Dr. Debra Gowan and the palliative care team was exceptional and we are forever grateful.
