Obituary of Paul Morrison
Paul Douglas Morrison, March 16, 1938 to January 29, 2019.
High school teacher; science, math, special needs and attendance counsellor for the North York Board of Education; long-time Board member at the North York Credit Union; tractor-trailer driver; sawmill and farm worker.
Passed away peacefully at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 29th at Sunnybrook Hospital .
Son of the late Marion and Douglas Morrison and nephew of the late Marty and Noel Plumb. Loving husband of Dianne Noseworthy whom he met when they were 15 and 19 and who were married for 55 years.
Paul loved his family and his pride and joy were his two talented, creative, athletic daughters, Heather and Karen, his wonderful son in law, Marc Pocobelli, and his beloved granddaughters, Ellen, Olivia and Aria.
According to Heather, Paul was the perfect father. For Karen and Aria, he was a fun-loving and caring grandfather. They spent so much time together, there are no words to express their loss.
He walked many miles with his beautiful dog, Phoenix ; a wonderful companion on many adventures over 11 years.
Paul grew up in Leaside and was a star hockey player all his life. He hung up his skates at 78 after a heart attack. He had natural athletic capabilities and loved the outdoors.
He was an environmentalist who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty cleaning up Toronto ‘s ravines and parks. He rode his bike right to the end and many knew him as he ran errands every day around Willowdale. He fixed everything. Aria would always say if it is broken grandpa will fix it.
Paul and Dianne travelled the world to 6 of the 7 continents; all but Antarctica . There were not many places left on their bucket list. They started to travel right after they married with a summer spent in Europe, Great Britain and Ireland . Over the years they hiked the Bruce Trail , Camino de Santiago, Cornwall coast, the Trapp Lodge trails in Vermont , as well as Saltspring and the Gulf Islands with many friends and family.
Paul was blessed to have the Leaside group of Greg, Bruce, John, David as friends since kindergarten. He was always ready to go to the pub with them to reminisce. His friends enjoyed his antics, his dry, crazy sense of humour, his slow, patient, deliberate way and his total lack of materialism.
He was so loved and will be so missed by his family and friends, his brother-in-law John and sister-in-law Wendy and his many close friends in the teaching, hiking and hockey world; but, no one will miss him as much as Dianne.
Private family funeral.
Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2019. Details to follow.
If so desired, donations can be made to Sistering a Woman’s Place, Covenant House, Red Door Family Shelter, City of Toronto Emergency Shelter , Good Shelter Ministries, Eva’s Initiatives for Homeless Youth, and Hockey Helps the Homeless or a charity of your choice.
