John Parsons
March 16, 1946 – February 01, 2019

It is with deep sorrow that our family announce the passing of John Parsons on February 1, 2019 at the age of 72 years.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Loretta; his son Doug; his daughter Jodi and son-in-law Yvan Mireault. He will forever by remembered and missed by his three treasured grandsons: Ryan, Matthew and Jacob.
Also leaving to mourn are his sisters Shirley (great-nephew Ethan), Eileen, Ruth (Bill), Mae, Violet, Dot (Russ), Peg (Terry), Rowena (John), Olga, sister-in-law Mary; his brothers Lionel, Herb, and Reg; his Port aux Basques family Edward and Maxine Buttery, Bryan (Carla), Chloe, Ryan, Patsy (Tony), Julianna, Antonia; close friends Roy & Lu and his group of special buddies, plus a large circle of relatives and friends.
Born in Bay Roberts, he was the son of the late William and Violet Parsons and named Malcolm John. He was also predeceased by his siblings Alan, Charlie and Phyllis; in-laws Jim Mercer, Fred Dawe, Harry Brinson, Ike Russell, Evelyn Parsons, and John & Jane Buttery.
John moved to Stephenville as a young adult. He was well known for his involvement with the Stephenville Jets and the Herder Memorial Trophies. After retiring from Abitibi Price in Stephenville, NL, John spent his time in Robinsons where he enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ATVing, his chainsaws, and life on “The Bank”. John was always patient with all the young ones who came to visit. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons all he knew about being an outdoorsman. There are many special memories of hunting and fishing, the rides to the cabin in the woods, and the Doug & Dad’s race for the first salmon of the season. He taught his grandsons how to fly fish on the rivers and ponds. He loved watching Jacob play hockey and baseball, and each winter he made him the best outdoor hockey rink. He supported education for his grandchildren and was proud when Ryan and Matthew finished college. He took pride in all his families’ accomplishments.
As per his wishes, John will be cremated and we will say good-bye from 7-9 pm on Thursday, February 7 at Serenity Funeral Services at 5311-91 St. in Edmonton, Alberta. We will celebrate his life and share memories at a later date at home in Newfoundland.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
I pray that I may live to fish
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord’s great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Really big enough to keep.
