Obituary for Helen Walburga Agnew (Frank)
Print
After a long life well lived, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Agnew on Monday, February 18, 2019 in her 104th year.
Predeceased by her parents Alois and Cecilia (nee Kraus) Frank of Humboldt, SK, sister Betty and brothers Louis, George and Walter. Beloved wife of the late James Harold Agnew, and mother to late children Jean, Cecilia, James (Shirley), Barry and Brian.
Left to mourn are sister Gertrude Geisler, daughters Elaine, Sheila (Al), sons Frank (Ann), Dan, Jerome (Rosemarie), Kevin, David (Line), 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Helen was born and raised on a wheat farm near Marysburg, Saskatchewan where she acquired a range of practical skills which she applied throughout her life. At age 20, during the Great Depression, she moved to Ottawa with friends in a Model T Ford purchased for $99! She worked in domestic labour in and around Ottawa, eventually meeting her husband at a Church dance in Douglas, Ontario. Determination, strength and kindness were the bases for her conduct. She was a fabulous cook, passionate reader, crossword puzzler extraordinaire and undisputed Scrabble champion. The well being of her family was always Helen’s priority. She rarely regretted a single moment, having an optimistic yet humble way about her. She faced the inevitability of death with grace, stoicism and courage. A life long Catholic, she embraced Jesus Christ as her saviour.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Fairfields Retirement Residence, Marian Hill
Assisted Living, Renfrew Victoria Hospital, and to Father Kenneth O’Brien.
Visitation will be held at Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 2 – 4pm, and 7 – 9pm and Friday morning after 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James The Less Roman Catholic Church in Eganville at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to World Vision in memory of Helen. Tributes, condolence and donations can be made online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com
