Doris Dagmar (Koivu) Wallace
1923-2019
With a heart full of love and no regrets, Doris Dagmar
(Koivu) Wallace peacefully passed away on February 23rd, 2019 having
just celebrated her 96th birthday on the 20th. Although she was born
in Port Arthur, ON in 1923 to Finnish immigrants William and Vilma
Koivu, she spent her formative years in Rouyn-Noranda, QC. She was the
wife of the late Ivan Wallace.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her devoted children
George (Simone) of Ottawa, ON, Laura MacLean (Derek Wyman) of Glebe,
Australia, Joel (Alice) of Fredericton, Derek (Sandra) of Halifax , NS
and Jack (Kim) of Columbus, Ohio; her adored grandchildren Joel
(Julianne) MacLean, Graeme (Cheryl) MacLean, Vanessa (Jamie) Barefoot,
Sean Wallace, Scott, Mark, and Jared Wallace, Ryan and Marisa Wallace;
her delightful great-granddaughters; her cherished sister Gertrude
Koivu of Toronto, ON and beloved brother George (Anne) Koivu of
Chelmsford, ON as well as several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Upon graduating from high school, Doris trained as a nurse at
Reddy Memorial Hospital in Montreal, QC. After completing her
training, Doris worked in Montreal before she proceeded to Moncton
where she met her husband. She and Ivan followed his military career
to Winnipeg, MB; Trenton, ON; Longuyon, France; Moose Jaw, SK;
Yorkton, SK; and Summerside, PEI before settling in Fredericton. Doris
was happiest when surrounded by her precious family and friends and no
place was more special to her than the family camp in Rouyn-Noranda
where the extended family worked on projects, played cards, and
enjoyed the sauna.
Special thanks to the staff at Windsor Court, Extra-Mural,
Dr. Khleduzzaman and Dr. Goodyear for their compassionate
care.
A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret’s
Anglican Church on Thursday, February 28th, 2019 at 2:00 with Rev. Rob
Langmaid officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery,
Shediac, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be
made to St. Margaret’s Church or a charity of the
donor’s choice.
“How lucky we are
to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so
hard.”
