It is with great sadness that the family of Cecil Laverne Ogden announces his passing on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Emo Health Centre.
Cecil was born on August 15, 1940 at the Fulford Nursing Home, in Emo, the youngest of six children to the late Wesley and Ida Ogden.
He was united in marriage to his favourite girl and love of his life, Thelma Lorraine Pederson on August 26, 1966.
He will be lovingly remembered by Thelma, his wife of 52 years, his children Liane (Steven) Toriseva and Roben (Amanda) Ogden and his grandchildren Jordan, Tori and Emma.
Cecil is also survived by his brothers David and Lawrence, sisters-in-law Patricia Ogden, Loraine and Edith Pederson, and Beverly Mylenchuk, and brothers-in-law Donald “Ted” Corrigan, Paul and Oliver Pederson, and George Mylenchuk.
He was predeceased by his siblings Alexander, Jean, and Mamie, sisters-in-law Carol and Edith Ogden, as well as father-in-law Peder Pederson, mother-in-law Sally Gill, and brother-in-law Garry Pederson.
Cecil attended Aylsworth, Lash and Emo Elementary Schools and the Fort Frances High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts/Education and went on to spend 36 years in education. He taught in Dewart and Sifton, Ear Falls, Barwick, Donald Young and Robert Moore Schools. During this time, he completed Masters degrees in both Arts and Science. Cecil was very active in a variety of community affairs including politics, athletics, recreation, and health. In 1995, he retired, and in 1999 his family started Border Country Outfitters, a business in hunting and fishing. Cecil’s motto was “work makes the wheel go round, the fun provides the grease”.
A service of celebration and remembrance will be held in memory of Cecil Ogden on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, followed by a reception at the Emo Royal Canadian Legion.
